My Morning Routine For Success- Starting The Day Off Right
When I started adopting a consistent morning routine, I really began to notice positive changes in my life.
One of my favorite entrepreneurs and best-selling author Tim Ferris states it perfectly when he says…”If you win the morning, you win the day”.
I couldn’t agree more and have experienced this first hand in my own life.
Not everyone’s morning routine will be exactly the same and that’s okay.
But just by implementing a few healthy, mindful and practical habits into your morning, can make a big difference in how the rest of your day goes.
Today we’ll take a quick look into my morning routine and what sets me up for a productive and successful day.
My Morning Routine For Success
Please note that this routine generally comes after a couple of essential morning habits of mine…i.e brushing my teeth, drinking a glass of water etc.
1.) Exercising
The first on my morning routine list is exercise. Exercising in the morning for me is mandatory and helps relieve excess stress, anxiety and just gives me a sense of immediate accomplishment. It preps my brain for the day ahead and helps with concentration, focus and retainability. Anyone interested in learning the effects of exercise on the brain, I highly recommend checking out the book “Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain” by John J. Ratey. Truly a life-changing read and extremely eye-opening on the positive benefits exercise has in various areas of life. My workouts generally are body weight based- pushups, pull ups, planks, dips etc.
2.) Meditation
I like to meditate every morning for 10-20 minutes after I exercise. I use a great app called Headspace which guides you through different meditations based on the pack you choose. This really helps throughout the day when different stressors arise and is just an overall cleansing experience. Meditation for me is an incredibly fulfilling practice and something that I never miss a day of. The process of watching your thoughts instead of getting completely overwhelmed or wrapped up in them is incredibly liberating. With all the apps and helpful content out there today, there is no reason why you can’t get into a consistent flow of meditation. Your mind will thank you for it!
3.) Gratitude
Practicing gratitude is something that can be as simple as writing 3 things down every morning that you’re grateful for. This is what I personally do and it helps set the tone for the rest of the day. It helps me realize that I have so much to be thankful for and eliminates any cravings or desires of wanting more. When you are truly grateful for all that you have, it allows you to live a simpler life with less clutter and confusion. Try to get into the habit of writing down a few things each morning that you are really grateful for…It could be as simple as having a bed to sleep on, hot water in the morning etc…Try to experience the gratitude in the body as well as the mind (don’t just write it down for the sake of getting it done).
4.) Green Tea
I’m not a coffee drinker and instead drink green tea as it really helps with focus and concentration when beginning my day. I normally try to tackle the largest tasks on my list first and sipping a cup of green tea always helps me through that process. It also has less caffeine than coffee so I am less jittery throughout the day. Green tea also contains an amino acid called L-theanine which helps with stress, concentration and focus. Something that comes in very handy during a busy day.
Now it’s also important that you wake up at a reasonable time to be able to complete your morning routine.
You don’t want to rush through things just to get them done..give yourself enough time.
Having a consistent regiment like this can really pay off for you down the road, physically, mentally and financially.
Again, everyone’s morning will look a bit different but most successful people out there have a set of practices that help them maximize their days, weeks, months and years.
These simple changes can really make a positive impact in your life.
Feel free to experiment with this a bit for yourself and let me know what works best for you!
